Description
There are moments in a blender’s career when a name on a band carries real weight. For Nelson Alfonso, that moment arrives with the Alfonso Extra Añejo Producción Limitada, a release that feels less like branding and more like a signature. As the fourth pillar in the Selected Tobacco portfolio, it stands alongside Atabey, Byron, and Bandolero, yet draws even deeper from a family tradition that reaches back to 1850s Cuba.
The blend is built with precision and patience at every stage. A two year aged Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper gives the cigar its refined appearance and silky texture. Beneath it, a three year aged Ecuadorian Connecticut binder holds everything in quiet harmony. The filler is a composed mix of Nicaraguan Ligero and Peruvian tobaccos, each aged three years before being rolled. What truly defines this cigar is its final rest, spending four additional years aging in cedar and French oak rooms, where controlled humidity cycles allow the tobacco to mature gradually and naturally.
In the No. 3 Toro, measuring 6 by 54, the profile settles into a medium bodied expression that is both elegant and layered. Aromatic cedar forms the backbone, joined by a fresh lift of lemongrass and a smooth, creamy texture. Notes of peanut butter bring a rich, rounded character, while a delicate crème brûlée sweetness lingers on the finish. A touch of white pepper adds just enough contrast, keeping the experience balanced and refined from the first draw to the last.
